Jacob Reinstein, Hand Building Instructor Hello, I am Jacob Reinstein, I have been teaching sculpture at several pottery studios around New York City since 2015. I love to teach children how to use their imaginations to bring tangible, fantastic creations into a 3d world. My style of teaching encourages students to be spontaneous, fearless, and a little silly. I like to introduce what may seem like challenging projects by demonstrating that complicated forms are made up of simple combinations of basic shapes. Seeing kids discover the pride, and gratification they feel when they create with their own hands and minds, while taking time away from screens has given me a great sense of purpose. Before teaching I worked as a technician in a ceramic studio, learning kiln maintenance, glaze chemistry, and the science behind what gives clay the properties it needs to allow us to create functional pieces that are durable and last for generations. I was also very fortunate to apprentice under skilled practitioners in the pottery field, which motivates me propagate those skill sets to the next generation.
