Thomas Debnam, Teaching Artist & STEAM Educator Hi, I’m Thomas Debnam, a teaching artist and game master with over ten years of experience helping young people build confidence, creativity, and collaboration through storytelling. I’ve taught at The Children’s Aid Society in Harlem, where I led game design, animation, and STEAM programs that encouraged students to explore their imagination through hands‑on creative projects. My approach to tabletop RPGs is rooted in the belief that every child has a story worth telling. Through character creation, world‑building, and cooperative problem‑solving, students learn how to express themselves, work as a team, and think creatively. I focus on making gameplay accessible, inclusive, and empowering, so each student feels comfortable exploring their ideas. I previously ran professional paid‑to‑play RPG sessions at Hex & Co. on Broadway, gaining firsthand experience with how storytelling builds communication skills and social confidence. Today, I continue to run online pay‑for‑play RPG games from time to time, bringing collaborative storytelling to players in flexible, accessible formats. I also draw from my background in Wing Tsun martial arts, voice acting, and digital media — helping students connect movement, performance, and sound to the characters they create. In every session, my goal is to create a space where students feel supported, inspired, and excited to bring their ideas to life.
