Class Description

This course is designed for students who already know how the pieces move and have a basic understanding of checks and checkmates. The focus is on sharpening strategy, learning key tactics, and preparing for tournament play- possibly as part of a school team. Students will review rules, coordinates, and piece values before moving into essential skills such as capturing and protecting, checkmates and stalemates, and special moves in chess. Lessons also cover opening strategies (DCK), basic tactics like pins, forks, and double attacks, as well as defensive maneuvers. Students will practice middlegame and endgame techniques and even test their skills against “robot” levels 1–5. By the end, participants will be more confident, strategic, and tournament-ready players. Please note: A materials fee will be included. Alternatively, chessboards must be provided.
