Class Description
Animation Creation walks students through the process of making their very own animated short films, every step of the way, from the initial concept down to the very last frame. Students will discover, through practice, the roots of what animation is, using multiple foundational approaches and produce their personal animated short films by the end of each class. Every class begins with a video projection provided by the instructor to garner the student's full attention, and a brief lecture to inform the student on the topic at hand and introduce a unique prompt / subject for their animated short film. The student will have the freedom to make whatever film they want and develop their own individual artistic expression within the confines of that subject matter and through the guidance and mentorship of the instructor, catering to their unique way of thinking. The semester is divided into three consecutive stages, covering the following animation techniques : 2D Hand-Drawn Animation - Starting with flip books, students will progressively engage with more elaborate optical illusions and eventually sheets of paper. Materials such as pencils, crayons, markers and any material available is encouraged in order to animate their films. Cutout Animation - Students will learn the basics of silhouette and collage animation using fabric, construction paper, magazines and any material to create textures for their animation, which they will later photograph into a sequence and complet
