Visual Artist with a background in mindfulness and meditation

New York City

  • I have studied in Florence, Italy.
  • I love learning and am constantly learning new techniques. I'm currently focusing on ceramics this summer.
  • I've been meditating for 15 years and am very versed in teaching skills that improve focus and emotional well-being.

Hi! I have been an art teacher for over twenty years, with professional certification in teaching K-12 visual art. I am currently working with grades 3K-5th, but have experience teaching all ages, including adults! I received my dual BA in visual art and educational studies from Brown University, with a strong emphasis on the psychology of learning, and my MFA from Pratt Institute, with a minor in art and design education. I have experience and coursework in a wide range of media, ranging from a college-level sewing class at FIT to learning classical drawing and painting techniques in Florence Italy! I love connecting with my students on a personal level, and breaking down projects into their components to help them feel successful. I start with exploring the medium and the various techniques they will use in a finished project, then dive into the brainstorming process so that they have a rich array of ideas to draw upon for their final project. I have a very strong background in art history and contemporary art and love to teach students about a diverse array of artists to introduce them to different perspectives. Above all, I love attend to a student's social-emotional needs, tying these concepts into the project itself or addressing SEL skills and how they interplay with the creative process. My classes are joyful and very much rooted in helping students feel successful, seen, and supported.
