Anna Sellheim was born in Washington, D.C. and currently lives and works in Baltimore, MD. She earned her MFA in Comics from the Center for Cartoon Studies in 2016. Sellheim's work primarily deals with health, trauma, and the healing power of art, and has been published by the Nib and Oni Press. She has also contributed to a number of anthologies, most notably Comics For Choice, a nonfiction comics anthology about abortion that raised over $30,000 for the National Network of Abortion Funds. Sellheim recently completed three years as the Community Arts Collaborative Artist in Residence at the Refugee Youth Program (RYP), where she taught art and comics to refugee youth ages 5–21 throughout Baltimore City. She focused on guiding her students toward creating their own healing art practices, while also using comics as a powerful way for students to tell their own stories and strengthen their English skills. One notable project, the RYP Zine, is an award-winning anthology created by her refugee students at Patterson High School, whose initial print run raised over $1,000 for the program. Sellheim also guest-curated Infinite Possibilities: Art & Hope, a collaborative art show between Creative Alliance and RYP. She was a Sequential Artists Workshop (SAW) Teaching Fellow in 2025 and is now an independent teaching artist, offering ongoing classes and workshops at SAW and the Enoch Pratt Free Library system, Arts For Learning Summer Programs, as well as one-off workshops at Small Press Expo and other venues. No matter where she's teaching, her goal is always the same: to help her students build their own unique and healing creative practice.
