Hi I’m Kathryn Shoemaker! I grew up in a rural area of Virginia and found a love for nature, cooking, and crafting at a very young age. I started cooking as soon as I could hold a box of pasta over a pot of water and have been sharing food with everyone I could since then. The process of cooking and baking is so joyous for me and I love getting share that joy with others who are new to cooking and baking. Whether it’s learning the skills needed to make any meal, how to create recipes out of any available ingredients, beautiful decorating techniques, or the history surrounding a dish, its an honor for me to share the knowledge I’ve gained throughout my life. I studied English at George Mason University and published two poems through their Literary Arts Magazine, Volition. My concentration was in Cultural Studies focusing on the larges and small life aspects that create, sustain, and immortalize cultures. Throughout my studies I’ve always been an immensely creative person. My interests range from cooking, baking, crocheting, soap making, writing poetry, sustainable living, ASL, journaling, drawing, reading, and so much more. I love any type of craft and always want to try something new! I believe there is always something new to learn about the world around us and that the pursuit for learning should never end. My goal is to inspire my students to always seek out knowledge and find joy in everything they do, especially in finding creative outlets to balance their schedule.
