Hi, I’m Duru Özkefeli, an art educator and practicing artist with a BFA in Art Education from Massachusetts College of Art and Design. I’ve taught and mentored students through classroom teaching, after-school programs, summer programs, and community art settings. I believe art should be a space where students can experiment, get curious, and develop their own creative voice. I want my classes to feel welcoming and hands-on, where students can try new things without worrying about making something “perfect.” One of my favorite parts of teaching is getting to know each student and seeing what they naturally gravitate toward. I love when a project starts as a simple idea and turns into something completely different because a student made it their own. For me, the best part of teaching art is helping students realize that their ideas are worth exploring. My own artistic practice is primarily focused on printmaking, with a strong focus on lithography, where images are drawn onto limestone and printed by hand. I also work with fiber arts and love exploring texture, pattern, and the physical process of making. Being a practicing artist allows me to bring real studio experiences into my teaching and share the processes I’m passionate about.
