My name is Kayla, and I am a professional chef in the Boston area with two decades of experience. I have my BS in Anthropology from MIT and was trained in the pastry arts at BU. I specialize in teaching all ages how to better understand their food, from a scientific and cultural standpoint. My teaching philosophy centers on the belief that anyone can cook, and that science, both physical and social, is an important tool in the kitchen. My classes focus on demystifying the cooking process and building confidence in the kitchen by being hands-on and gaining practical knowledge. I love to create fun and inviting classrooms where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. Before becoming a culinary instructor, I was a social scientist and researcher, and I regularly combine my skills when testing new recipes and developing complex flavors. Outside of the classroom, I am the owner of a microbakery, Brickhaus Bakes, where I get to flex my creative muscles with a seasonal menu.
