With a bachelor's degree in anthropology, minors in creative writing and German, and a lifetime interest in children's education, I strive to bring out children's interests in writing and culture through creativity oriented, interactive play. My teaching approach revolves around the personal interests of the kids, introducing and building understanding for new concepts in relation to these interests. With my approach, games and interactive activities acts as a tool to draw kids into the real world concepts, building a bridge between the child and potentially intimidating activities or subjects.. Through play, children are able to write their own narratives within game worlds and introspect on both themselves and the world around them. Games, such as Dungeons & Dragons, are near and dear to my heart as they fostered in me a deep love for cultural anthropology and creative writing. Through their ability to reflect the real world through game mechanics and social interactions with others, I was able to explore interests that I initially found daunting, such as longform creative writing and cultural ethnography. This playground of academic exploration is what I hope to bring to a new generation of children.
