New York City
- I’ve been drawing and painting for most of my life, and I still carry a sketchbook wherever I go.
- I’ve visited The Metropolitan Museum of Art more than 1,000 times!
- My name, Dov, means “bear” in Hebrew, and growing up my nickname was Dubi, which means “teddy bear.”
Dov Talpaz is a Brooklyn-based painter and teaching artist with more than 20 years of professional studio and exhibition experience. He earned a Certificate of Fine Arts (CFA) from the New York Studio School, studied Anatomy for Artists at the New York Academy of Art, and spent seven years in a studio apprenticeship with painter Paul Resika. Dov works across painting, drawing, watercolor, collage, and etching. He is represented by SARAHCROWN in Tribeca and has exhibited in galleries and museums in the U.S. and internationally. His experience as a practicing artist is central to the way he teaches. Dov has taught children, teens, adults, and older adults at Saint Ann’s School, the Art Students League of New York, Brooklyn Public Library’s Creative Aging program, Pi Art Center, and his Brooklyn studio. He teaches drawing, painting, watercolor, collage, mixed media, and printmaking. At the center of Dov’s teaching is the relationship between observation and imagination. Students learn to really look, developing an awareness of shape, light, proportion, rhythm, and structure while gaining the confidence to invent, experiment, and find their own creative voice. Rather than relying on step-by-step projects, his classes emphasize careful observation, experimentation, and individualized guidance. As an artist, teacher, and parent, Dov believes art can give children something increasingly valuable: a space to slow down, focus, look carefully, and become absorbed in making something of their own. His goal is to create an encouraging environment where students build strong artistic foundations while developing curiosity, confidence, and creative independence.
