Hello! I'm Ryan New, a theatre educator with 5+ years of classroom experience. I specialize in vocal music and musical theatre education, with a focus on developing performance skills through confidence and empathy. My teaching philosophy is based on the belief that students become perpetual, lifelong learners by finding a spark of curiosity early. Whether it's performance on stage, working on technical elements such as prop/set design, or learning to bring a hand puppet to life, my goal is to create the spark and let the students fan their own flames of learning. My role as an educator of the Arts is to create a safe and supportive environment where students can explore their expressive potential, even in moments of vulnerability and anxiety. Before teaching, I performed as a vocalist, actor, dancer, multi-instrumentalist, and sword-fighter on stage with all ages, which gives me a very unique and empathetic approach to connecting performance with confidence, and confidence with education. Outside of the classroom, you can find me performing in community theatre around the DMV area or working with clients in the gym while earning my Personal Trainer certification with the National Association of Sports Medicine.
