Hi, I’m Ivana Lamptey, a multidisciplinary artist, designer, and creative instructor specializing in crochet, knitting, sewing, beading, weaving and acrylic painting. Through my creative brand, Iveymade, I explore the possibilities of handmade art and fashion while encouraging others to discover what they’re capable of creating. My teaching philosophy is simple: creativity should feel exciting, approachable, and empowering. I believe students learn best when they are given the space to experiment, make mistakes, ask questions, and develop their own creative voice. Whether a student is picking up a crochet hook for the first time or looking to build on an existing skill, my goal is to meet them where they are and help them grow from there. What makes my approach unique is that I don’t just teach students how to follow a pattern or recreate a finished piece, I teach them how to understand the creative process. I encourage students to think like makers and designers by learning techniques, problem-solving, experimenting with materials, and eventually creating pieces that feel uniquely their own. As someone who learned many of my creative skills through curiosity, experimentation, and hands-on practice, I understand how intimidating it can feel to be a beginner. I want my classroom to be a welcoming place where every student feels capable of creating something they’re proud of. Most importantly, I want students to leave class with more than a finished project, I want them to leave believing, “I can make that.”
