Hello, I'm Kia Standard, a musical theater and writing educator who teaches in the DMV area. I have a Bachelor's degree in Dance and English from Barnard College and a Masters' degree from The Johns Hopkins University in Creative Writing/Nonfiction. I specialize in assisting young artists to create original theater projects from "page to stage". My teaching philosophy centers around empowering young people to use their voice and talents to create plays and musicals in a safe and supportive community. Teaching them how active listening, focus and collaboration can lead to amazing art. Before teaching, I worked as a professional dancer and musical theater actress in New York City, regional theaters, and European tours of West Side Story, Bubbling Brown Sugar, and Don't Stop the Carnival, to name a few.
