Ello! My name is Khrystine Hudnell, but I go by Khrys (Chris). I have been bringing the joy of theater into young people’s lives for about 18 years, with the past six years being in a professional capacity. I earned my associate degree in Theater from Delaware County Community College (DCCC) and my bachelor’s degree in Production and Design from West Chester University (WCU). My teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that every individual is unique and has their own talents, strengths, and abilities. I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to express those talents, build confidence, and shine in their own way. Whenever I bring theater to the kiddos, one of the first things I tell them is, “Theater is not just acting.” There are so many ways to be a part of theater and the creative process. Over the years, I have watched some of my shyest and quietest students come out of their shells simply by finding where they belong. Sometimes that means performing onstage, but other times it means helping create the set, working behind the scenes, designing, building, or discovering another part of the production that excites them. One thing all my students quickly learn about me is that I am not your average teacher. I don’t just stand in front of them and tell them what to do—I work alongside them. I want my students to feel supported, encouraged, and confident enough to discover what makes them shine. My hope is that every young person I work with walks away knowing that they are a star in their own way. Because one thing I will always remind them is: Not all stars are in front of the lights.
