Hi, I'm Christel Mays, a first year elementary art teacher with over 10 years of experience working with all types of art mediums. I am a proud alumni from Hampton University with a bachelor's degree in Education. I am here to help young learners have a new love for art and self expression. My teaching philosophy centers on the belief that art is used in our everyday lives. Art can be used to express an emotion that you do not have the words for. Art can be seen in all different shapes, sizes, and colors. Whether you are drawing your favorite cartoon character, mixing up your favorite colors in the clothes you choose, even down to the posters/painting you have on your bedroom wall. I strive to create an inclusive environment where kids feel confident to express themselves. Before teaching, I was a professional and licensed nail technician. When I'm not in the classroom, you'll find me with my daughter, doing nails or at my favorite artist's concert performance.
