Karate, Kickboxing, Boxing & MMA | Confidence Through Practice

Philadelphia

  • My students nicknamed me “Sensei Awesome”—and it stuck!
  • I’ve competed in sport karate, boxing, and MMA. Each taught me something different about movement, timing, and staying composed.
  • I’m also an adventure tour guide and write the Warrior Philosopher newsletter, where I explore martial arts, self-mastery, and living with courage and purpose.

I’m Harol Coronado, a Shotokan karate black belt who has trained since 2004 and competed in sport karate, boxing, and MMA. I’ve taught students as young as three, professional fighters, people with disabilities, and older adults. Shotokan shaped how I live and teach. Its Dojo Kun guides my approach: develop character, practice sincerely, give your best effort, respect others, and exercise self-control. I bring these principles into everyday practice through attention, honest effort, and care for our training partners. My experience in boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, and MMA grounds that philosophy in practical training. I teach by doing, helping students understand their bodies, learn real techniques, and see their progress. Games and humor make practice enjoyable, while clear expectations and thoughtful challenges give it purpose. My students nicknamed me “Sensei Awesome”—and it stuck! I especially value helping students who doubt themselves. I’ve guided students who were afraid to spar toward feeling comfortable enough to train with me, ask questions, and explore their skills. We build confidence gradually through experience, with control and safety guiding the practice. With younger children, that journey begins with posture, balance, listening, and learning alongside others. As students grow, I encourage them to lead by example and help others learn. As a father, writer of the Warrior Philosopher newsletter, and adventure guide, I value curiosity and independence. My goal is to give students tools they can keep using long after our classes—and eventually surpass what I can teach them.
