Fine arts and…science!
Philadelphia
- In my art practice I make big sculptures entirely out of buttons!
- I like to use experimentation in art. Will it work? Let’s try it and see!
- One of my favorite science lessons is teaching a dance I made to model the cell membrane!
Hi! I’m an artist and former biology teacher who loves finding how things we think are totally different actually overlap. I have a wide range of interests from dance and theatre to printmaking and sculpture to microscopy and the scientific method. As a multidisciplinary artist, I bring a wide range of skills to the classroom, from technical printmaking or metalsmithing to practical sewing and fiber arts. As a teacher, I encourage students to take risks while learning technique. I offer guidance and knowledge but also a beginner’s approach—I’m still learning every day, and being open and curious is the biggest lesson I try to impart on my students. In order to grow from it, I believe learning should be joyful and challenging and I work hard to create safe spaces for kids to explore. Outside of teaching, I maintain a studio practice of my own, take classes to learn new skills (currently intaglio!), and run a small jewelry business. I try to learn new things every day!
