Chess Coach, Mathematics Educator, Physics PhD

- I traveled to Africa to help run and participate in an internationally rated chess tournament event in connection with the Disney movie, Queen of Katwe.
- I worked at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, performing data analysis and visualization for multi-spacecraft missions.
- My favorite number is the imaginary number, i, and I'll be happy to explain why at our first chess lesson!
My name is Jason Shuster, a chess expert with 25 years of experience playing and studying the game, and a passion for sharing and teaching chess to audiences of all ages around the world. I received my PhD in space physics from the University of New Hampshire's Space Science Center, which gave me the opportunity to work on spacecraft missions at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, and I have over 15 years of international research and presentation experience in related science and mathematics disciplines. I love seeing my chess students develop skills like patience, concentration, sportsmanship, future planning, goal setting, coping with winning and losing, and understanding consequences, all while having fun learning to play and master the game of chess. I especially enjoy utilizing chess as a vehicle to promote curiosity about the mathematics and science concepts that permeate our universe.
