Class Description
Immerse yourself in the tastes, crafts, and traditions of Chinese Lunar New Year! The workshop begins with an engaging story circle that introduces the Lunar New Year. We'll discuss this year's animal, the Lunisolar calendar, and what a typical Lunar New Year day would look liek for a Chinese student their age. Students will then create a colorful dragon puppet to symbolize power, good fortune, and strength in the new year. They will also create their own chūn lián, or couplets, to take home and decorate their space. Tasty treats like tangerines and lucky candy like red chocolate coins can be available for sampling depending on your site's guidelines. This workshop is highly adaptable depending on your community's needs and budget. Certain elements like traditional performers and choreography can be implemented.
