Class Description
This course is an exciting, inspiring introduction to visual storytelling through the mediums of comics and zines. We will also explore the history of zine-making as a tool for grassroots activism and the power of spreading an important message using art!
First, we will delve into the steps of making your own comic:
-Writing your story!
-Sketching your characters!
-Doing rough sketches, or 'thumbnails'!
-Inking!
-Final art!
We'll look at a range of graphic novels and comics for inspiration and guidance along the way.
Then, it's time for zines! We'll learn all about the role of zines in music and activism (and sometimes, both). Then, each student will focus on a topic important to them and design their own zine from start to finish.
