My name is Jade Sacker, I am a multidisciplinary content creator with six years of experience cultivating stories related to women and identity.
I have a true passion for mentoring youth and currently serve as a Teaching Artist at Reel Works, a NY-based nonprofit that mentors, inspires, and empowers underserved NYC youth to share their stories through filmmaking. I previously worked with Venice Arts as a Teaching Artist, tasked with building a 12-week Documentary Film curriculum for students aged 14-18. I have experience teaching documentary filmmaking, as well as digital and film photography.
For a bit of background, I have worked as a journalist, filmmaker, and human rights activist covering stories related to conflict, displacement, and indigenous identity in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. After starting as an NGO photographer in Nepal and Kenya, I traveled to Myanmar and Bangladesh to cover the Rohingya genocide as an independent journalist. I then transitioned to a staff position at the Phnom Penh Post in Cambodia. I began my first long-term project in Northern Syria at 20 years old by volunteering for, and embedding in, the Kurdish military. I returned for a year to work at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, while formally studying Documentary Practice at the International Center of Photography. I then began my career in filmmaking in 2020 with A House Divided, which is about a month away from going to sale.
