Hi! My name is Malik Warlick, and I am a dancer, teacher, and choreographer. I have been dancing for just about 20 years now, and through my professional career, have been afforded amazing opportunities to dance on world stages in works by very esteemed choreographers.
I first started training at Debbie Allen Dance Academy in Los Angeles, then transitioned to Hollywood High School Performing Arts Magnet (yes, THAT Hollywood). Upon graduation, I skipped my commencement ceremony to begin my studies at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater here in New York City for 4 years, on scholarship. In my final year at Ailey, I began to teach their Junior Division, with a primary focus on the 7-12 age group, while also substituting for the younger tots and older high school students as needed. I taught my students multiple styles, including Ballet, Horton, West African, and Hip Hop. Some of my students were high-functioning special needs as well. I continued teaching after finishing school for the first part of my dance career, balancing with performing for multiple dance companies in New York City, including Ronald K. Brown/Evidence as well as Jennifer Muller/The Works.
I then began to work internationally, with my first contract being at a luxury 5-star hotel in Dubai, followed by a series of cruise line contracts taking me all around the world, including Antarctica, Belgium, Colombia, Hong Kong, and Japan, just to name a few. On all of those contracts, I had rotating class duties with the rest of my cast members, where we would teach multiple styles, including Stretch + Strengthen, Cardio, Jazz, and Choreography. As well, on my off seasons between contracts, I had Guest Teaching Artist engagements at South Pasadena High School. My focus there was Jazz, while also choreographing for their end-of-year performance. I have so much wisdom to impart on your students, and am very much excited to jump into the studio and get them moving!
