Jabari T. Tate, a Philadelphia native, has over two decades of martial arts experience and a deep passion for African drumming. He is a Second Degree Black Belt in Taekwondo, having practiced for 22 years. For the past two and a half years, Jabari has been studying Fujian Five Ancestor Fist Kung Fu and Matayoshi Kobudo through Sifu/Sensei Russ Smith's Distance Learning Program, earning the rank of san kyu in Matayoshi Kobudo. He recently traveled to Florida to train in person and receive rank from his Sifu/Sensei.
Jabari is also dedicated to mastering other martial arts, including Praying Mantis Boxing, Bagua Zhang, Wudang Kung Fu, Tai Chi, and Five Animal Kung Fu, under the guidance of Sifu "Chik" Qadir Mason for the past two years. His martial arts philosophy is rooted in discipline and perseverance.
In addition to his martial arts expertise, Jabari is an accomplished West African drummer, having studied instruments such as Djembe, Dunduns, and Balafon under the tutelage of Ira Bond during high school and plays consistently with his teacher. He also enjoys learning new languages, including Bambara and French, and exploring global cultures.
