Building confident active learners
New York City

I’m James Longsworth, a New York State-certified physical education teacher with more than 20 years of teaching and coaching experience. I help young people build confidence, develop skills, and discover the enjoyment of being active. My coaching background includes boys’ and girls’ volleyball, leading Taft’s girls’ team to the 2015–2016 PSAL Varsity B City Championship, and coaching middle-school players who progressed to high-school competition. I also lead youth volleyball clinics that introduce beginners to the sport through engaging, age-appropriate instruction. My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and structured. I break skills into manageable steps and use games and supportive feedback to help students experience success. My volleyball programs for grades 3–8 emphasize passing, setting, serving, movement, and teamwork in a safe, welcoming environment. Every student deserves to feel included, challenged, and proud of their progress.
