Hi there! My name is Shannon and I am an actor and educator based in NYC. I have a degree in Music Theatre from The Hartt School of Music Theatre and I am also a certified TEFL Instructor. For the last 5 years, I have worked in the private sector as a Public Speaking, Language Arts, and Dramatic Arts instructor to students ages 5 to 18 years old, most notably at the Alliance Theatre and through Able 2 Shine. At the Alliance Theatre, I assisted and independently ran classes and camps for students ages 8 to 18. Our camps were centered around a literary project, such as Winnie The Pooh, or The Wizard of Oz. Our youngest students would learn the foundational skills of building a musical or play centered around a novel or storybook. We would learn about costume making, scene writing, memorizing, and much more! Our eldest students were pre-professionals enrolled in a year-long program through the Alliance. These students crafted an entire show centered around a novel, nonfiction project, and or album. One of the pre-professional groups wrote and performed a show based on Anne Frank's Diary, supported by the music of Simon and Garfunkle. My role as an educator was to teach and arrange music, the components of scene writing, and to direct our performance. At Able 2 Shine I have taught Pre-Public Speaking, Debate, and Reading and Writing Skills to students ages 5 to 14 years old at all different levels ranging from beginner to advanced. I do both private tutoring and group classes. My strengths are flexibility, high energy, and a mission to create a safe space for all students and teachers. I teach in Atlanta, New York City, and Hartford CT, my alma mater. When I am not teaching, I am performing, continuing my own education, or learning a new recipe. I have a major love of food and learning about the world around us through it. I am excited to meet our future artists!
